Hi all,

I created an account just to ask this! I have a beautiful new Fluval Spec V aquascaped, cycled, and ready for my first quality betta. I've had petsmart bettas in the past, but I decided I wanted a higher quality betta this time.

I found this betta for sale from BettasAndArt.com and twiddled my thumbs for too long and someone else purchased him. Im kicking myself right now! He was SO perfect and I want to find another just like him. I love his "spotted cow"/"paint horse" pattern. I've been scouring ebay, AquaBid, and other USA breeder websites for something similar but haven't found anything as similar in color. This one was an HMPK but I don't even mind if it's another type.

Does anyone know where I can find one? Have breeder connections, etc? Know of some places I haven't looked? I'm fine with importing and paying extra. Willing to pay top dollar for something like this one! Help would be appreciated, thank you.

Not sure where you are located but on the east coast many breeders have stopped shipping due to the colder weather, at least the more reputable ones or stopped guaranteeing live delivery. I have used lovelybettas.com, When the spring comes around i'm going to get another but this time from njbettahatchery as I am in NJ so the shipping would be ideal. You can find NJBettaHatchery on facebook as well as ebay. Some sellers that get good reviews on ebay are betta_mafia, tk_betta. I'm sure there are more but just ones I have been watching and keeping an eye on. Hope this helps.

Thank you that does help! I will check out LovelyBettas.com. And thanks for the ebay tip! Betta_Mafia on ebay is only a city over from me and we could arrange a pick up which is great! But he didn't have anything currently I was interested in. I am on the west coast in Southern California but I forgot to consider the east coast winter weather for shipping. Especially since BettasandArt.com is located in NYC. Thank you for the info, you have been helpful! :)

You might try getting in touch with CoastGem USA, they're in Chula Vista (San Diego county) but I've heard good things about them and they have some really lovely looking bettas on their site. From what I've heard, they also have a store you can visit so they probably have more in stock there. You might also check if there are local chapters of the betta association who should be able to point you towards breeders.

I'm in Tennessee and just received three Betta from Loc Nguyen in Sacramento. He used 72-hour heat packs and wrapped well. There's nothing wrong with having Betta shipped in cold weather other than this week (because of Christmas delays).

Loc very often has Koi HMPK. All of my Betta now come from Loc. His prices are more than fair and shipping is reasonable. This is a closed group so you'll need to ask to join. Send me a PM with your name and I'll approve you.

Here's a recent Koi. Most of his PK sell for $15-20. Shipping is $12 or $15 if you need a heat pack.

You are right there is nothing wrong with shipping in the cold the problem is if that package gets lost on top of being in cold weather.I just am opposed to doing it because of the non guarantee unless it's overnight shipping. Spring can't get here soon enough for me...lol

I was watching that sale on Ebay too!! I thought it was about the prettiest fish I have ever seen - he looked like a cow!

I was leery of mail order too until I had 2 packages arrive from overseas (first to a transshipped, then to me) in such great shape. I am a fan of "Betta_Mafia" on Ebay. He has a beautiful assortment and has been really nice to me, and his shipments always come quickly and well packaged.

Yes I was thinking a cow too! That's probably why I loved it so much. lol

I have heard great things about Betta Mafia and he's less than 10 miles away from me! But I messaged him today and he said he's traveling to Thailand and wont return until April. April!! I'm not sure I can hold off buying a betta for that long. hehe

Thank you for the input!

Its not black, its steel blue i believe. i have some in long fin, planning to breed them this week.
Yeah someone else pointed out to me that one is more of a blue color than "black" or "grey". Interesting! And that's great, please keep me posted!

True; however, packages can be lost and fish die any time of the year. IME, Summer is a much worse time to ship than Winter. Nothing is as unpleasant as receiving a delayed shipment where fish that died slowly from the heat. I know. :-(

Ahh I wish I could get fish shipped.. I found a couple on ebay that were just gorgeous but I'd be too scared to ship here... The only fish shipping that goes on in Alaska is salmon going out on dry ice.

I found the most perfect koi betta!! Just purchased him from Betta_Mafia on eBay and will only have a 10 minute drive to pick him up this week. I’m SO excited! Thank you everyone for your help! I think I will still continue to hunt for koi bettas though. They’re so amazing! the addiction begins! Haha

Oh no worries! I'm glad he went to a good home! If I were still living in Oregon we may have bid against each other but since I'm now in Alaska, I probably wont venture into buying fish online until spring or summer. Maybe... The thought of it still makes me nervous.

He really is gorgeous tho. I had day dreamed about putting him in my "pond scape" community tank. I imagined that red orange would just pop against the green plants. Did you decide on a name yet?
