Hi!

I have a 10-gallon with 6 rasboras and a handful of snails. Used to have a betta but he passed o last week. :(

Whenever I stir up the gravel to move an ornament, tons of poop comes flying up. Once I took out all the gravel to replace it with a different color, and the tank was disgusting. The water was so clouded with crap. :-? It did settle down, eventually, of course.

Do I need to start vacuuming it? How expensive is an aquarium vacuum, and how effective is it at removing waste?

Oh, and if it matters - I have seven live plants that are thriving. Lots of anachris, some water anubias, and a few others I don't remember the names of.

The anachris grew huge, so I collected some of the fronds and trimmings and made a new cluster. That's in the other corner of the tank, now. Love that I can do that! It's like getting free plants. Lol.

You can get a siphon for not too much on Ebay. The battery operated ones cost more and sometimes the REALLY cheap ones don't work, but I just got a turkey baster that seems to work really well for that sort of thing. It even came with a cleaning brush.

The glass turkey baster I got with cleaning brush ($4.99 plus a couple bucks for shipping): http://www.ebay.com/itm/15098662643...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

The Siphon Kleen Mini-PA0562 (though you'll want a larger size for a 10 gallon) that I am waiting for in the mail (Also $4.99 plus $2.98 shipping): http://www.ebay.com/itm/290824291315?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

The cheap ($3.99 with free shipping) siphon I got that didn't work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221166495764?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

The cheapest battery operated siphon I could find on Ebay ($8.69 plus $1.09 shipping): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aquarium-Ba...239?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e676a6a9f

I hope that helps!

I have the aqueon one from petco, it's okay but it isn't the best!

You should defiantly get a vaccuum, make life easier! you don't have to do as many 100% water changes and they really do get the poop and dead plant leaves!! A battery powered one sounds nice I might have to get one!
