What exactly makes a betta attractive enough for show? Compared to the less remarkable show fish I've seen, Algol's PetCo. crowntail is far prettier, save for an imperfection on his dorsal fin. (I've noticed fin symmetry is a big thing?)

Usually nice colors, nice form, body shape, little or no deformities. The IBC has very good examples

Karen's fish are really good show betta's so does basement betta's although you can't really buy them in stores, there either from a breeder, or you bred them.
qualities are (for HMs/HMPKs) evened anal, dorsal,and caudal. wide dorsal, perfect 180 or more caudal spread, sharp caudal, branching perfect, etc it's lot's of stuff
