It's been 40 years since I last bred bettas, yes, bettas existed back then, but in way fewer colors. LoL.

I have an unrelated pair, both marbled, multi-color, some dragon scales, both HM, I don't think either have bred yet, nor with their original breeder (Thailand for the male, South Florida for the female).
Purple Violet Pink Natural material Feather

They are both still learning how to be bettas. The Male only JUST started making nests. He does not know how to embrace the female yet. She has filled up with and dropped eggs twice waiting for him to get all his breeding behaviors down pat, but I think he'll eventually get there.

I bred my first betta by accident. It doesn't take a long time, but to do it successfully and consistently you may need to practice and read a lot so you don't make simple mistakes that people already know how to avoid.

Looks like a beautiful pair, why not set up a journal for us to follow along? 😉

Edit. Also welcome 🥳
Never bred a fish before but it sounds hard and fun to have hundreds of babies around

If you culture enough different kinds of tiny live foods, it's not too difficult.
How long is your total fish keeping I know at least 40 years but I'm wondering now
Interesting question. My first fish was a seahorse that washed into my rubber boat at the beach in Florida. I took him home and using very primitive methods back then kept him for several years. I believe I was 6 at the time. I was born in 1961 so that means my first fish was in 1967. So that means 53 years? Something like that. But I'll keep having some kind of fish until I'm dead.
