Housing:
How many gallons is your tank? 6
Does it have a filter? Yes
Does it have a heater? Yes
What temperature is your tank? 83.4
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? Only a sponge filter
Does your Betta have tank mates? What kind? One nerite snail

Food:
What food brand do you use? New Life Spectrum Thera +
Do you feed flakes or pellets? Pellets
Freeze-dried? No
How often do you feed your Betta? How much? Twice a day, 5-7 pellets

Maintenance:
Before
your Betta became ill how often did you perform a water change? Once every week and a half
What percentage of water did you change? Between 33 and 50 percent
What is the source of your water? Tap, conditioned by Prime
Do you vacuum the substrate or just dip out water? Dipped water – substrate is soil, so we couldn’t vacuum it up.
What additives do you use other than conditioner? What brand of conditioner? None. Seachem Prime

Water Parameters:
What are your water parameters? Please give exact numbers. If tested by pet store please get exact numbers. "Fine" or "Safe" won't help us help you. Important: Test your water before the regular water change; not after one.

Ammonia: 0.0
Nitrite: 0.0
Nitrate: 5.0
pH: 6.6
Hardness (GH): Unknown
Alkalinity (KH): Unknown

Symptoms and Treatment:
When did you first notice the symptoms? One month ago, but more extreme changes in the last few days

How has your Betta’s appearance changed? Less vibrant, fins began to compress (I posted photos a while back and was assured that it was not fin rot). She gradually became more and more listless. Today, when she re-emerged from her burrow, her head was light colored, where it used to be black.

How has your Betta’s behavior changed? Less and less active over the last few days, culminating in her burrowing and hiding under a large log in the tank for a day and a half. We assumed that she had died, and I was preparing to remove her from the tank, when she reappeared suddenly today. She has been jerking around a bit, swimming awkwardly. She would flare her fins out only when she wanted to move, and only briefly. Now she is resting on the bottom of the tank.

Is your Betta still eating? No.

Have you started treating your Betta? If so, how? No. She went missing, and we assumed she was dead.

Does your Betta have any history of being ill? No.

How long have you owned your Betta? 6 months

Was he or she ill or suffering some sort of damage when purchased? Not that we could see.

I forgot one thing - we added almond leaves to the tank a while back, changing them out with the water changes. The leaves were added after mild symptoms had begun.
Do you know how old she was when you got her?
If I were you I'd move her to somewhere with shallow water so it's easier for her to breath and give her better access to food I think eating will help with with regaining her strength
Do you know how old she was when you got her?
No - Unfortunately the guy who was selling her was shady and unhelpful, but my daughter fell in love with Victoria when we visited the store, so we bought her despite the risk. I imagine that, given the plastic cup she was being kept in, she might have been sick/stressed from the get go,
Folks -

Victoria passed away last night. It's official this time.

Given the information I shared above, does anyone have any idea about what caused her demise? I ask because we want to be sure its safe to introduce new fish to the tank (and we want our sadness to prompt the rescue of a new fish ASAP).

Thanks,

Saav
I’m very sorry for your loss. She could’ve passed from old age. Your numbers seemed good and I know you took great care of her. SIP.
