I have a small 3g tank with Loki, my Betta. The filter and heater are right next to each other in the corner, so I'm looking for a tallish type of plant (7-9" tall maybe) to hide at least the heater. I have a yard dirt substrate with gravel cap. Loki loves hanging out at the heater even though the tank water is 79-80 degrees so if it provides a resting place for him, all the better! Wait - he won't cook himself in his sleep will he???

For now there are no live plants, but that should be changing tomorrow. All are basically just ground cover types for the red cherry shrimp I want to put in there at a later date.

Thanks!

Try some easy stem plants like Hygrophila polysperma or water wisteria for example. I recommend stems, because for the tall ones u can trim them to your liking and replant the cut part to make more. It also becomes more bushy the more you trim them and don't forget root tabs.

Thanks Tony! I still need root tabs even though I have soil under the cap?
