So I just got my lovely Betta Ziggy stardust that seems to be doing well in his new home but Im not so sure if «he» is a «he»?
I didnt read the shop description as I was so mesmerized by his/ her looks.

Plant Insect Terrestrial plant Pollinator Arthropod

Plant Organism Terrestrial plant Fish Arthropod

Plant Insect Pollinator Butterfly Window

Flower Plant Pollinator Insect Butterfly

What do you guys think?

Male Halfmoon Plakat, I‘d say.

Body shape (blunt head) and his fins suggest male.

Long ventrals in combination with short caudal and the trapezoid shape of the annal.

Both, ventrals and dorsal would be shorter in a female Plakat.

Also annal fin wouldn‘t be that shape in a short finned female usually.

Oh, especially in very young ones I find it hard to tell.

But yours is more adult, so not so difficult.

Sometimes, there are Betta that are not easy to distinguish even when more mature, so anbody can be wrong on those, I find.

P.S.: I learnt from Moderator indjo here on the Forum, that another indicator to look out for is looking at their gill plates from above:
Males can open 90 degrees and females usually less.
So on your last photo, he seems to have his plates opened to 90 degrees —> male.
