This is Moby:

I finally bought him yesterday! He's my first fish, so I'm quite excited.

His fins appear to be slight torn, which is a shame not unexpected. I actually had to ask if the pet store had any Betta in the back because there were none on display. I purchased Moby after being informed that "a couple of fighting fish got into the same tank" a while ago and that they were "pretty much" healed now.

I've been running my heater on the reccomended temperature of 26 degrees celcius but I've cranked it up a little, a little concerned about how much time he's been spending around the heater.

Also, to my surprise, I've already spotted him making bubble at the top of the tank! He hasn't eaten thus far however, only chewing up one pellet and spitting it back out. I've read that sometimes Betta do this just so it's easier to eat, so I'll be patient and see what happens in the next couple of days.

Hehe, thank you.

Just a couple of questions to anyone who may be reading this:
Is it normal for a new Betta to hang in the corners of the tank?
and also, is it better to have the water a little too warm or a little too cold?

Thanks. xo

Congratulations on your first fishy friend. Moby probably just needs some time to settle in.

Do you have any hiding spots in the tank for him? A little betta cave with no sharp edges and a soft silk plant will make him feel more secure.

As for the temperature, if he had bacterial fin rot you would want to keep the temp a few degrees lower than usual but that doesn't seem to be an issue for Moby. Keep the temp. @ 78-80 F

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Best keep the tank at 28*C (82.4*F). It's better to have the water a little warm than cold. But as long as there's no fluctuations, bettas can adapt.
Bettas hanging out in certain areas, hardly moving indicates something is wrong. It might be food related - not taking the pellets you offer. Or it may be something else - hard to say.

Congrats on your gorgeous betta.
