i had bought a male over halfmoon betta around 20 days ago. since then he has suffered SBD once due to overfeeding and now he is facing significant fill loss.

anyways. my betta has a drastic loss in his tail now if i compare him to his first few days. i am attaching a collage of his pics showing his tail earlier and now. it makes me cry everytime i see it. :'(okay so my bet is that my fishy lost his tails outta stress. actually i had a get to gether at my place last week. and when i wasnt around my cousins just tapped my fishy's bowl very badly (not that badly as it sounds, but yes it was quite hard). i yelled at them when i saw them doing this and did nott allow them to go near to the tank anymore.*my fish was fine even after 30 mins past of that incident.*but then i did a 25% water change through siphon and i kept everythng smooth and slow as usual. but dont know why my fishy got scared of me after that incident. the one who used to bite my finger, eat from it, follow it madly dint want to come near it anymore. he hided frm me. so i left him alone for a day. he dint eat for next two days but then he started eating.*then i noticed pieces of his tails in water and i immediately treated him with terramycin 250mg half capsule and after a day or two there were no evidence of further torn pieces visible in water.*so i got calm.*but few days back while browsing through his old pictures i saw his pics when he was new at my home. and it shocked the hell outta me.*i was srsly threatened by what had happend to his fins due to my irresponsibility (i dint ask my cousins to not to tap his bowl beforehand).*then i did a 100% water change (as adviced by ppl over net so dat all bad bacterias which has caused this rot goes away from water).*the 100% water change was done before 2 days from now.*and after 2 days of that tapping incident he started eating normally and it took 1-2 more days for him to again recognize me as his beloved owner.*now he behaves perfectly allright.. swims alright.. watches me all the time when i'm around and swims crazily when i show him his food.*but still i want to do everything i can do to quickly help him hrow his tail back.*i dont wanna c my bful fishy like that for long.*please help me guys. following are the details of his housing :he is in a 2.5-3 gallon bowl.*no filter (regular water changes done)*no heater ( i live in a tropical country and temp is always constant in his bowl and upto his range)no water conditioner coz LFS here dont have a good brand but i always use dechlorinised water treated with dechlorinator and also add indian almond leaf or its extract to water as it softens the water and remove toxins from water to a large extent (reason why it is called 'POOR MAN'S WATER CONDITIONER'*.*pebbles, a cave like showpiece for him to hide and a silk plant.*thanks in advance people.**

Not too drastic of a change, three things I care about:
what size is your bowl
How often do you do water changes
How much water do you change when you do that

You need a water change schedule. It is not good to wait until he is gasping for air, you are probably stressing him out quite a bit. With a tank your size you need to be doing one 50% water change and one 100% water change every single week. Make a schedule. For example, do the 100% water change on saturday, and do the 50% water change on wednesday. The reason why he is gasping is probably from ammonia poisoning which can kill him.
