My frog died about 3 weeks ago, my fish (Johannsan-Joe for short) was doing fine, the tank was being cleaned weekly, he was fed daily and was active and ate fine.

We have a half gallon fish bowl with a log, plant and rocks and the bottom.

In the past two weeks, the tanks gets dirty really fast, he sits at the top, and will not eat.

His fins have started turning clean and he started getting slimy white stringy things on them, this is just in the past few days.
The bowl started getting this weird slimy film at the top.

We have since cleaned the tank two-three times will a full water change.
Now he is sitting in a clean bowl of water, with nothing inside.

I am thinking the frog may have caused bacteria in the bowl, I think the frog died because it was old. We took great care of them both, then about a month ago I noticed the frog wasn't eating right and started laying at the bottom of the tank.

Any who...any ideas on Joe?
I'm pretty sure he has ich or fin rot?? Any suggestions? I don't wanna loose joe):

Fin rot makes the fins look like they have a black outline eating away at them. Ich causes small white spots, not strings. So that's two things ruled out.

Do you heat his water? if he's sick, that will help him recover, plus he should have a heater anyways.

Also, a half gallon is not big enough for a frog and a fish. Really it's not even big enough for the fish. A bigger space would also help his overall health.

The slimy film is protien, it's normal. If it wasn't there before despite stagnant water, there may have been something wrong, but I'm not sure.

I recommend reposting this in the disease section of the forum. I can tell you it isn't ich (that looks like little dots of salt).

I also suggest that you go out and get him a Kritter Keeper, holding at least one gallon of water, more being better. Also get an adjustable heater and a thermometer. Get the water up to 80F and gradually acclimatise your fish to the new water. Add one teaspoon of aquarium salt (NOT table salt) per gallon.

This may not cure it, but it will go a long way towards helping his immune system fight this off.

The folks in the disease section will be able to give you more help. :)

Hey guys, play nice. You were newbies once too. Plenty of people are told a load of rubbish by petshops, and since you'd expect them to know what they are talking about, they rely on that. Being rude and accusatory won't encourage people to learn - it'll just make them feel small.

Beta has already been told the tank is not a great size.

And Cargo, there are many members here who keep their bettas in bowls. Just because a tank is round doesn't mean it's a terrible home.

And bettas don't have to have filters like he claims. In fact they do better without it, because of the current they cause, and bettas prefer unmoving water. Same with frogs, frogs don't need filtered water, just for the water to be clean.
