At least I've never seen him flare or even act aggressive. I'm guessing its just his personality? Anyone else notice this about thier Betta ?

My male VT does not flare either, though i've never tried to provoke it out of him (no mirror, no other fish in the aquarium). He also never bites. But he's very active, he'd chase and "nose" my finger all day if he could. He seems happy and gets exerise in other ways so i've never really worried about the not flaring...

Curious to see other responses to this post... Should we be worried about the lack of flaring??? Hope someone can answer:)

My boy is the same; I can show him a mirror, and he just swims happily past it. The only thing he ever flares at are my painted fingernails! xD

I have a delta (who may be a HM) that I've never seen flare. Not at my fingers, not at a mirror, not when he was cupped right next to another male. He's just that mellow.

I did have one guy I got so young that he didn't flare for the first 2 months I had him. As he aged I was able to get him to flare, but he only does it rarely.

I honestly don't think it is anything to worry about on its own. If there are other problems like lethargy or lack of appetite, then you might have a problem.
