I have 3 lovely Mystery snails all bought at our local Aquatic store. My largest is Finn he's quiet impressive & lives in a 10g Aqueon "live" planted aquarium w/ Lil Blue my betta. Phoebe & Marty live alone in a Fluval Spec V 5 gallon tank that I detest!!! I cannot get rid of pest snails that came with the plants & driftwood from the Aquatic store nor the strange variety of worms. I need to throw the tank out & get something better for Phoebe & Marty who now have 2 clutches in this lousy tank just above the water line. I don't want my babies being born in the AWFUL Fluval Spec. Any suggestions what to do to transfer the family & not jeopardize their health would be appreciated.

I would remove Phoebe and Marty to another tank or container and add babies as they hatch. Buy an Assassin Snail to get rid of the pest snails in the Fluval Spec. I've never had an Assassin Snail take down an adult Nerite or Mystery. Whether to keep in one of the other tanks is a matter of choice. Or, if you feed frozen Bloodworms you could keep it in its own small tank.

I am sure the pet store will take the Assassin Snail back as soon as its work is done if you decide against keeping.

You can also take out Phoebe and Marty and add a leaf of lettuce. Remove and replace daily until the pest snails are gone. I throw the snails in the yard so bugs and birds will eat. Just don't throw them in any pond or stream.

Good luck. Until I got my first Assassin Snail I fought the battle, too.
