NEED HELP! Female betta identification and care!

Hey everyone! I'm not a total newcomer to keeping bettas, since I've had my largest female for about 3 months now, but I bought a 10 gallon tank about 3 weeks ago and after cycling it, decided to make it a community tank.

Then i bought 3 females for my only veiltail (i think) for a sorority, as well as transferred my tetras, mollies, and platys into the tank as well.

The first few days have been good, but I would like some help, since one of the females was a rescue and had nipped fins. I'm wondering if i should quarantine her and let her heal.

Also, can people please confirm the tail types of all the females? PLEASE AND THANK YOU! :D

Sapphire, my oldest female. She's very good natured and friendly. I think she's a royal blue veiltail.

Vera, who I think is a multi color delta, but i would like the opinions who know MUCH more than me :p

Lily, who i think is also a delta, but a copper mix.

and finally, I have Scarlet, who's the one with nipped fins. I don't have an idea about her tail type because of the nipped fins. Should i quarantine her?

BONUS:
Male crowntail and (maybe) pregnant platy (with the male next to it)

I wish I was more help on the tail types, but the first is definately a veil tail, but just curious as to how many fish are in the 10 gallon?

Very pretty fish!

Thanks! I have 4 females, a small pleco, 4 platies, 2 mollies, and a 2 small tetras. There's plenty of foliage and cover for everyone to hide in. For now, I separated Scarlet (nipped female) because she was skulking too much by herself.

She's much better now in a small, half gallon bowl

Ok awesome, So i'm going to give you a heads up on a few things to consider before moving forward to make sure your new sorority goes fantastic and is what you hoped for!

-your tank is very much overstocked, which in the case of just betta females is ok but the mollies and platies and tetras all in there together could casue a major ammonia spike and kill multiple fish at once. The rule of thumb is 1 gallon per inch of adult fish (female bettas usually count for 1 gallon total, mollies/platies count for 1.5-2 depending on species).
- the tetras should be in a group of 4-6+ because they are schooling fish- this is obviously not going to kill them being in a pair but always more is better with tetras :)
-females should be in groups of 4 + to help keep aggression down and monitored closely (though this too can be worked around depending on the females)
-lots of hiding places will make a succesful home for females:)
-take out the pregnant mollies/platies! Fry from these are toxic to bettas in larger amounts and are irresistable treats for bettas of all kinds :)
- the nipped female has really long fins which makes me in fact think it could be male (this is NOT my area of expertise though someone wiser should step in)

- check out this thread for some awesome tips/advice- really helped me with my sorority.

I'm sorry to point out all that, just want to make sure you are aware so you don't suddenly lose fish :(

Sapphire is a blue VT girl, Very is a blkue/red bicolor Plakat or PK, Lily is also a Pk and extremely stressed out in that picture, those aren't her truie colors. She'll probably color up to be black or dark blue. And Scarlet is a red VT with lots of blue iridescence.

I agree the tank is very overstocked and under planted. You literally want to have a jungle of plants with a sorority, minimal open spaces so that they can attack each other easily. Also mollies grow up to five inches and will easily outgrow your tank. Make sure you research all fish befofer getting them into a tank.

Thanks guys! I put Scarlet back in!

I found the problem to be the tetras, since I had Serpae Tetras, which are known to be nippy and more aggressive than neons and others.
I'll also switch the mollies to another tank soon, but keep the platys there because they're peaceful fish.

Finally, I'm thinking of adding a CT female ad Delta Female to the tank as well. What do you guys think?

Also, what kind of plants can i add? Can it just be floating foliage - leaves and moss?

Can i add stalks from "Money Plants" and Elodea from my parents' pots after thoroughly cleaning the plants and roots?

Do you mean "moneywort"? I don't see why not as long as they haven't been fertilized or are in chemicals that can be moved to your fish - both hanging and plants are necessary to improve hiding space for your fish and avoid nipping

I would however not put anything in that tank at all more as long as the platies are in there - even after taking out the mollies and tetras you are still overstocked because of the platies. You could take out the platies and put the bettas in though - that would make a nice balance. Overstocking doesn't mean not enough swimming space usually - it means that the bioload (or amount of waste each fish produces) is too much for the amount of water.

6-8 female bettas in a 10 gallon makes for a nice sorority mix however, without any other major fish :)
