I bought my male betta fish yesterday from petco. He's a delta tail male. Currently, I have him in a 1.5 gallon square tank. Currently, the tank is 72 degrees. I'm not sure if that's a good temperature for him, but I want him to be comfortable...What is the best heater for him? I also currently have a filter in his tank too...so I preferably want a smaller heater :D
Thanks!

Hi NoviceBettaKeeper98! Bettas are supposed to be kept in containers of at least 2.5 gallons. A heater is not safe to use in tanks less than 5 gallons. I recommend getting a five gallon with a heater.

I think 1.5 gallons is perfectly fine as long as you keep up with regular water changes. I would get the 25 watt Hydro heater, it has gotten great reviews.

Do you have a filter? I'd suggest you'd look at the 'oldfishlady water change reccomendations' that are stickied on this forum. I think she recommends like twice a week 50% and 100% every few weeks or so.

Ahhh I see :) Thanks! So should I shy away from buying a heater at all? He's not eating at all, so I was a bit worried...
Betas are tropical fish, 72 is not tropical temperature. By all means get the heater, there are plenty of mini heaters out there.

Oh yeah, even though 1.5 gallons is okay if it is heated and you keep up with the water changes, remember that bigger is always better (and easier for you).

I've had my 1 gallon heated before, you can totally heat that lol. I use the Marina C10 which can be found at Petsmart/petco and I've also used the Aqueon Betta Heater from Petco but it's not that great.

There are multiple you can buy online as well that will let you change it's temp like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/140722093794?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 It's got great reviews and actually works lol
