New baby, guesses on sex and type?

I'm addicted I ended up picking up a second baby at Petco today. Right now he's set up in a .5 gallon tank temporarily (don't worry, I do a daily 50% water change and 100% every other day for the .5 gallon. I keep aged water on hand to make it easier, and I'll be setting up another five gallon like George is in!) in my bathroom where the tank holds a steady 82 degrees. Any guesses on sex and type? Name is Theta!

My guess is female veiltail. Keep me posted!!!!!
Female, not a VT though! Most likely Super DeT or HM!

She looks like my late Radar!

If Theta is a girl, she's an aggressive little girl. On a related note, baby flair attempts are adorable.
Yup! Females can be just as aggressive as males if not more aggressive sometimes!
I have my fingers crossed Theta ends up a male as it's looking prett certain that George is a female. LOL I'd really like one pretty boy and not sure I could talk the bf into three tanks. LOL
I'm 99.9% sure it is female :)
How can you tell? I'm trying to learn. LOL
I see ovaries which are the only way to tell the sexes. And there are other little subtleties like the small eyes; compare Theta's eyes to my Radar. Radar has much larger eyes than Theta. Also notice the anal fin, it's much more rounded than Radar's anal fin point.

Thank you! I'm going to hold out hope, but if they both end up boys I might just end up with a 10 gallon divided tank, because it's still only two tanks right? ;)

Theta seems to be settling in well, the pictures make it hard to see but the black mottling (I'm not sure the correct term) seems to have darkened up overnight! Water temperature is holding steady at 82 and Theta ate well this morning! My boyfriend will feed both of the babies mid day and I'll do a 50% water change when I get home. :)

Theta looks like she could be a marble betta.
The gills look like a girls gills
That sounds like it'd be fun, getting a baby betta and trying to guess what gender it is as it grows. When I got my Dracula, he was shipped into the pet store when he was a baby so they didn't know what gender he was at first. But he grew up, and when I got him it wasn't hard to tell that he was a male
I am going to guess Male. since everyone else said Female. LOL

Fingers crossed!

The black on her head has really darkened up over the last 24 hours, enough so that even my OH noticed the difference. And she's a trouble maker, I had to go get her a different thermometer as she got herself stuck between the thermometer and glass, now she has a free standing one.
She's not a marble, no true marble starts off like this. True marbles generally start off a solid color like blue or red and then change from there, often going pale flesh colored and then to their opposite; if it were red it will go blue and blue goes red. Of course, that's not a true pattern, just an observation of them.

I see many people are getting confused between what a marble really is an the marble coloration, they are very different things. And coloring up; pale fish going dark and staying that way, is also not marbling and is not linked with marbling as far as I am aware.
She is beautiful and super cute
