Okay, so I traded my LED Marineland hood with my friend for a florescent tube lamp and a glass top. It'll be great for my plants, but there are a couple of things I must ask.

If the current bulb doesn't help my poor wilting plants(or if the bulb goes out) what's the best bulb to replace it with? My job carries hagen brand glo tubes, if any of you have experience with those please let me know.

Also, the glass top doesn't fit right with my current filter. I've wanted to get a new filter for a while, now I have an excuse. My question is should I go submersible or sponge? I have these at my work:

As far as the Hagen brand bulbs, the Life-Glo ones have a Kelvin-rating of 6700K which is about in the range that you want to look for for live plants.

As for the filter -- personally, when I get my larger tanks set up, I'm planning to go with Lustar sponge filters; I know that Hagen ELITE is a very good brand and imagine that they would make pretty good sponge filters as well. That's about as helpful as I can be there, as I'm not familiar with the other two filters. As I tell customers, however: a lot of it comes down to preference in regard to filters so there's really no one answer there.

I've pretty much decided on the Duetto, it was on sale at my job for fifteen bucks, so woot.

I'm going to go with either Life Glo or Aqua Glo. Aqua Glo has higher kelvins, but with large spikes in Red and Blue, which is what I've heard plants need, then an extra spike in yellow which I hear is what helps us see them better. I might not though since I do have some lower light plants like Java Ferns to consider. I'll put them in the shade but I want to be sure they won't wither. The bigger one's even starting to grow babies!
