Ok, so would it be ok not to use a filter? 50% water changes every week? Would that not work? Thanks!:-D:thankyou:

Tom Mini Internal filter.

In a five gallon, I would seriously recommend cycling your tank. If the outflow is too strong, just baffle with a water bottle or extra filter sponge.

Without a filter, expect to do 100% water changes. With 50% every week, ammonia will just build up slower. Getting a filter would be much, much easier.

I'm with Hopeful on this. A cycled tank provides the best and most consistent water quality. It's also easier to maintain; although this is less important. A sponge filter is very gentle and provides lots of room for the bacteria colony. http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/...ts-accessories/sponge-filter-tutorial-318602/

A cycled tank is not for the convenience of the keeper, but for the health and safety of the fish.
