I've had my betta for a month. He is in a 5 gallon, cycled tank with a heater and filter. Water change every 1-2 weeks.

He is a Elephant Ear Betta (Man, I love these)

Today, I noticed he tore one of his front long fins. I am almost positive he tore it on this fake plant I have in the tank, that's really rough and easy to catch a fin on. I knew I shouldn't have kept it in there, I've learned now. I removed the decor plant.

He's acting fine, still swimming around and very active, so no weird behavior.

Now, I wouldn't be so concerned about the tear had I not seen a very small red color at the end of the tear. He doesn't have red on any of his other fins, and the fin that the red color is on, is on his front fin, which is white -- easy to spot the red color.

I have attached a picture. Is it fin rot? Maybe an infection? Blood?

I have betta fin medication and aquarium salt, so I was prepared.

Anyone know if I should be concerned about the reddish color on his torn fin? All his other fins look great.

Help!! :(

In the picture, you can see where the fin has split down the middle, and the red I am concerned about is circled. Thanks!!
