outflow problem...

337 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  mart
I have 2 tanks made specifically for bettas (both 2.5 gallons).

One of the filters is fine, however the other is too strong coming out of the outflow pipe.. is there a way I can possibly soften the flow? It comes out of a little pipe. It is evidently too strong, as it's creating a huge hole in the sand directly after. I'm worried it will stress out my fish too much?

Thanks.

Zip tie a chunk of sponge over the end of the pipe. I had to do this with my fluval spec.

Thanks, that's a good idea :)
Any particular kind of sponge??
It doesn't matter as long as it's aquarium safe, but I like to get the Fluval prefilter sponges. They're cylinders and already have a cutout through the middle, so they just pop on. Easy easy, and I've never had to replace one. A couple of them I've had for almost 2 years.
Look for the Fluval edge pre-filter, it's small and might just slide over without having to zip tie it so you can rinse it every so often. I never have tied one onto my filters.
Another solution is to put some holes in the outflow line. I did this as well as the sponge over the nozzle of my Spec V.
The filter outflow making a depression in the sand doesn't mean that the filter is too strong.

That's true
