I decided to play around with my DSLR camera the other day, thought I'd share a few shots! I'm a non-photographer playing with a very photographer-y camera, but I'll get better. For every....20 shots I may have kept 1. lol

Apollo, my copper *potential* SD - can't get a good look at his tail yet flare-wise

Wow, those are some STUNNING photos! You got some really clear ones. Can I ask what settings you used? My camera isn't a DSLR, but I know a fair bit about how to adjust settings for a good shot, so long as I know what the settings are.

If you don't know for certain, you can always check the EXIF data. This site can do just that.
Haha wow I'm so embarrassed I have this wonderful camera and I don't know anything about it. I really need to take a class or something.
I will look into that site tonight or tomorrow and give you an answer the best I can!

Golf time right now :)
Gorgeous boys! I especially like Winter.
I know! I love his little black "nose" lol
Thanks guys!

Thanks Tree!
How pretty. The pictures are really beautiful!

That was for the one/ones of winter - I'm sure they're all similar.
This is for the one of Apollo, it differed a bit:
Flash used :No
Focal length :50.0mm (35mm equivalent 75mm)
Exposure time :0.0080 s (1/125)
Aperture :f/5.6ISO equiv. :800
Whitebalance :Auto
Interesting. Sadly, the aperture f-stop is higher than what my camera allows, but I'm sure I can get some similar results with proper lighting. The ISO stuff really helps.

Something you might want to check with: using macro settings. They're designed for close-up shots. In most cameras, it's designated as a flower. Probably where you set your focus settings.
Yes I was looking into that.
And by looking into I mean googling.

Apparently there isn't a specific "macro" setting on these cameras, says google. it's all just by the type of lens you put on it. :/

This 50mm is the shortest one I have, I think a shorter mm lens was reccomended.

Maybe there is a setting though, perhaps I'll look

Do share some pics when you take some! :)
Looks like a 100mm lens is said to be a macro lens. Whatever that means.

I need a "for dummies"book I think
I believe 100mm lenses are much wider than standard lenses. I'd look into getting one in the long run, but your standard lens is working beautifully so far for betta photos.

EDIT: Check the mode dial! A quick google search brought me a picture of a nikon DSLR with a macro mode.

Ah yes, I think that is the Nikon's version of the "canon rebel" the beginner's DSLR camera; the Nikon D5100.

In hindsight, I'm thinking that is the camera we should have bought, and it probably also wouldn't have cost well over $1000.

We bought a step up from that one because my husband and I are interested in photography, and planned to take courses etc. We just haven't had the time.

It's the Nikon D7000. Was told it was for beginning photographers.
This is the dial on my camera
I appreciate your help though, Rimbaum! :)

Looks like I need a different lens that would be over $400, or some ring attachments which are much cheaper, that will help to zoom closer.

But yes, I think I did okay with what I have for now!!! For a beginner anyway.
Ahhh, I see. It's a really nice camera! It's... just going to take you a while to get used to, I think, haha. Sucks about the lens, though! I had no idea lenses were that expensive.

As I said though, you've got some lovely pictures of your bettas with just the standard lens right now. It should do you really well while you figure out all the settings and decide what you want.
thanks again you're too kind! :)
How pretty. The pictures are really beautiful!
Forgot to say thanks, Fenghuang! :)
wow stunning pictures!!!!! literally stunning! they look like they are floating in air!
