Do moss balls require special care (fertilizer, certain amount of light etc). Also, do they tolerate aq salt?

What about duckweed? I have the exact same questions for them as for moss balls. Also, do you think I could collect some from the wild? I live in upstate NY.

Mossballs don't require any special care such as specific lights or ferts. I have even grown them in an unheated tank by the window. In my experience some can tolerate AQ salt and some cannot. Either way, you shouldn't be using salt in your tank on a regular basis.

Duckweed will probably need a plant light, but it doesn't need any ferts. As far as collecting it from the wild, I wouldn't. Who knows what it could bring into your tank. You can just buy it online (AB, Ebay, ect) for rather cheap. Some users here might even be willing to send you some.

Cool! I won't be using salt on a daily basis but it's just that in case my betta needs salt, I don't want to have to buy a whole other tank for the plants.
