My fish Winston has been somewhat lethargic recently (normally he tries to attack me through the tank wall when I feed him). He spends most of the day at the top of the tank and only responds when I tap the tank right next to him. He still seems to spend the nights in his rock cave though.

The scariest development happened yesterday when I noticed he had white spots on his eyes. They might be directly in front of his eyes but its hard to tell. I'm pretty sure he can see me because I lightly put my finger on the tank next to him and he moved away from it, like normal. Also he isn't finishing his food, and he is normally a voracious eater. I'm going to do a full water change tomorrow and I've ordered aquarium salt which I'll put in the tank when it arrives.

Admittedly his tank isn't anything special, but I was told it was big enough. I have an air bubbler (sorry don't know what its officially called) and a light which I turn on in the day and off at night.

I read that it might be lymphocystis or Ick? I don't think its Ick because he only has the spots on his eyes and I'm not sure about lympho since his appetite seems to have been affected.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm a new betta owner so I have 0 experience. Thank you!!

Hi buri and welcome to the forum. From your description, your betta could have a number of ailments. If you can get a pic of him or further describe these white spots, that would be very helpful.

If the white spots are ONLY on his eyes, then there is a very strong possibility your betta has cloudy eye. This is generally caused by deteriorating water quality so my advice would be to first fill out the stick Callistra posted and then to do a 100% water change and fill his tank with warm water that has been dechlorinated.

Good luck and get back to us soon.
