Every morning a small scoop and a little before I leave work. He fasts at least 1 day a week. I am an overfeeder!

How has your betta fish's appearance changed?
Just a bloated belly, no discolouration that I can see

How has your betta fish's behavior changed?
sinks and cannot float at the top without assitance from plants

When did you start noticing the symptoms?
About 2 weeks ago I noticed the listing to one side when he stopped swimming, about a week with the difficulty swimming. I have not seen a bowel movement at the botton of the tank for this week at least, I can't remember last week.

Have you started treating your fish? If so, how?
Yes. Last time I fed him (he will only eat freeze dried blood worms) was Thursday last week, did not feed him Friday, fed him a small amount of frozen (thawed) pea on Saturday, nothing on Sunday and a small amount of pea on Monday. I also read on a post from the forum creator to try daphinia which I gave him a small amount this afternoon.

Does your fish have any history of being ill?
He had clamp within the first few days of getting him, I removed the filter and used BettaFix for 2 weeks and he has been fine since.

How old is your fish (approximately)?
I got him from a pet store in August so I have had him just over 6 months

The post won't let me add a picture, says invalid file. His skin does not look like a pinecone so I have ruled out dropsy if this helps.

Sounds like he may be having some water quality and nutrition issues that have lead to either inflamed, impacted duct....

I would go ahead and Qt him in a small container and float in the heated tank to maintain 77-78F temp-be sure and attach it so it doesn't sink-Cover the top with plastic veggie wrap to retain heat/humidity for the labyrinth organ.

Premix some treatment water in a 1gal jug of dechlorinated water-Add Epsom salt (Not aquarium salt) 3tsp/gal and a tannin source if you have one-either IAL or dried Oak leaf-let this steep for 30min and use this premixed Tx water for 25% water changes every 15min for 1hour today-he needs to stay in the QT in the Tx water for the duration of the treatment period....

Tomorrow start 50% water changes with the Tx water every day for 3 days-On day 4 make 100%-repeat this schedule for 14 days....

On day 12 and 13-make a 50% water change on the 5gal-

On day 12-make 25% water change on the QT with the Betta using fresh dechlorinated like temp water for 2 days-then start re-acclimating him back to the tank water by adding small amount of tank water to the Qt over 10-15min-dump half the QT water out and replace with tank water-be sure and dump the QT water down the drain on in a potted house plant-not in the tank...

Once you get him back in his tank after the 14 day treatment-get on a regular schedule of 50% with vacuum weekly and 100% monthly on the unfiltered 5gal-unless it has live plants.....

Nutrition-you are going to have to get him off the freeze dried food-I would get a good quality varied diet-pellets of some type will work-hold all food for 3 days-then offer the pellets-if he refuses-remove them and try again-he should start to eat in time-You can roll/lace the pellets in fresh crushed garlic juice and sometimes this will help stimulate appetite.....
Once he start eating the pellets-offer the FD foods as a treat a couple of times a week....
