The fish looks a lot like a female but I'm not very sure. Did you try to make it flare?

 

I tried, but they just swam away. I don't see an eggspot.

 

Ignore an "eggspot" or lack thereof. It's an unreliable method of sexing, especially at his/her age.

It's young and really tough to tell... But just based on proportions and body shape my best guess would be female. Too young to see ovaries and her ventrals are iffy... You'll have to wait to be sure but yea, if I was to guess I'd go with female.

Kind of hoping he/she is a girl. The color he/she is getting will be unique

 

I managed to get Koza to flare. I saw no beard, so I say a little girl.

 

Actually females can have long beards too, and males can have short beards. I thought my young betta was female till he never developed any eggs and turned out to be a plakat. Really short beard (barely there). But I agree with the others, possibly female, but too early to tell for sure just yet

 

Does Koza look healthy?

 

How old is that fish? Looks a lot like my young males, actually. But I'm not that great at sexing them until it's REALLY obvious.
