My 1-year-old female Bluestar has pop-eye... I put her in a 2-quart quarantine tank with 1/4 tablespoon aquarium salt (according to box) and 36 drops Bettafix (according to bottle). I have a light on above her to gradually warm up the tank from 70 degrees. Is this OK?

Her tank was below 70 degrees? That is VERY cold for a betta. Temps that cold can kill them. Do you have a heater for her tank?

If it is pop-eye, Bettafix is not likely to be of any benefit and can cause the fish breathing problems because it can coat their labyrinth organ.

True pop-eye (which can also be a symptom of dropsy) needs a very different treatment. Can you take some pictures?

For now, give her 100% water changes every day and dissolve *epsom salts* (not aquarium salt, and make sure it has no scents or additives, just plain epsom salt) into her water, 1 teaspoon/gallon, which can be increased slowly up to 3 teaspoon/gallon.

My female fish just had this. The only thing that worked for me, was to do an aquarium salt bath for about 20 mins a day for her. I tried the epsom salt treatment and it didn't do anything for her, but the Aquarium salt bath worked like a charm for her. After two days I saw huge improvements. However, that was just my experience some people have better luck with the epsom salt treatment. There is a sticky in the emergency and diseases section that list diseases and how to cure them. Hope that helps somewhat.

Thanks you guys! It seems to be working though. The swelling around her eye went down and her tank temp is currently around 80. I have a heater in her normal tank but I can't leave it on because I'm not around that much to turn it off.
