Just discovered that one of the girls in my sorority has popeye. I have done a 50% water change. Should I quarantine her to treat her, and/or the whole tank?
I am going out now to get a 1-5 gal tank, as i don't have anything else to put her in. Is there any medication I should get while I am out?

We need more info and a pic....complete/copy/paste and add this to your thread along with a pic.....pick up some Epsom salt too (Not aquarium salt)
If you have any of the small temporary containers that most Bettas are sold in-these work great for QT

This is a new development, as she did not look like this yesterday.
I have done a 50% water change.
I have her quarantined in a .75gal critter keeper, but should i treat the whole tank as well?
She is acting normal besides this bulging eye: healthy appetite, still curious, active and exploring.
I went out and got Melafix and a new filter cartridge.
My poor Phayet!

She was in a 10gal planted sorority, now in a critter keeper .75 gal

What temperature is your tank?
The sorority is between 79-82 degrees.

Does your tank have a filter?
Yes, just changed the filter.

The sorority is, the critter keeper isn't. I don't have a heater small enough for it.

2 panda corydoras, 4 amano shrimp, 6 ghosties, 7 other female bettas

Freeze dried blood worms and aqueon betta pellets

How often do you feed your betta fish?
once a day in the morning.

Every Sunday

What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change?
30-50% depending on the water conditions.

What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change?
None, I have well water.

Right eye is swollen, cloudy and bulging:

No change

Yesterday morning

Moved her to a critter keeper .75gal and dosed with Melafix

Does your fish have any history of being ill?
No

How old is your fish (approximately)?
Not a clue. Old enough to definitely be a female.

Should I treat the whole tank? I read somewhere that this is contagious...

Since its just one eye its most likely injury related-I would make an extra water change on the main tank.

For the QT'd female I would not use the melafix-I would use Epsom salt (not aquarium salt) and tannins...Premix the treatment water in a 1gal jug of well water-Add the Epsom salt 3tsp/gal and a tannin source-either IAL or dried Oak leaf...using this premixed treatment water make 25% water change every 15min for 1hr in the small QT container-she needs to stay in this treatment water/QT for the duration of treatment time of 14 days

Tomorrow start 50% daily water changes with the Tx water for 3 days-On day 4 make back to back 50%...repeat this schedule for 14 days....

Once the treatment is completed and her eye is back to normal-properly re-acclimate to her tank

It can take-7-10 days to see improvement sometimes-depending on the cause

Nutrition-good quality varied diet fed in small frequent meals....

If the girls in the sorority have symptoms them yes, treat the entire tank. Other than that, OFL pretty much has you covered. My girl had Popeye once.

I don't have access to IAL but I do have a giant oak tree in my yard.
I will have to go out to get epsom salts tomorrow.
Do I need to let this mixture sit/soak the leaf before using it?

None of the other girls have it in the main tank.

Any reason why you wouldn't use Melafix? It says on the bottle it can be used to treat popeye, so why not in this case?

Collect about 20 naturally dried and fallen from the tree Oak leaf-crush and add to the 1gal jug of dechlorinated Epsom salt water...let this steep for about 30 min before use...

The longer it steeps the more tannin will be released the darker the water the more the Betta will like it....don't worry if any of the leaf bits in the QT with the Betta....

Be sure to properly acclimated to the new chemistry......

I only use/recommend natural treatment.....if you choose to use the melafix-be sure to remove the cover on the treatment container for good air flow for the labyrinth organ......

It is still larger then her healthy one, but all the cloudiness has disappeared.
