Today, I put moss that can be found at the side of house from the ground onto the 5 gallon aquarium with my Betta Fish in it. I rinsed it before putting in the tank.

Is the moss safe even if it comes from my backyard? Is it dangerous?

It most likely will rot and die underwater long term....

Generally things around the house-like rocks, wood, Oak leaves and dirt are safe to use-provided that they haven't been exposed to harmful chemicals-pesticides, ferts...etc.....You can't just wash most of these things off and its better to be safe than sorry later.....

It's probably not dangerous, but it's also not aquatic if you found it growing in your backyard (unless your backyard is actually a swamp! ). As OFL said, it will rot and foul up your water eventually. You should take it out.
