Question about cleaning algae

Hi all,

I want to know if its OK to leave the power on in my tanks, when I clean algae off the sides of my tanks. I ask - because - you can see the algae so much better - when the lights are on in the tanks. I use the basic algae scrubber (looks like a green sponge) - in other words - I'm not holding on to (or touching) - anything that is metal when my hand is in the tank.. Thanks in advance.

It is perfectly safe to leave the power on if you're asking about the lights.
If you're not taking any water out (and dropping the water level too low for the heater or filter) that's fine.I use a magnet cleaner to clean any algae that might appear on the walls of my boys tanks & on water change days I do that first & leave the power & light on.I switch the heater & filter off when I'm taking water out though.
