So I really don’t need a filter or air stone of any kind in the hospital tank?
As long as you have the prime to bind the ammonia every single day at the same time of day. I don’t go over 24 hours before I add again. What I found directly from the seachem site:
Prime® will bind up those compounds for up to 48 hours. If they are still present after that time frame, they are released back into the water, unless Prime® is re-dosed accordingly. Also, if your ammonia or nitrite levels are increasing within a 24-hour period, Prime® can be re-dosed every 48 hours.

Okay!! That’s really good to know. Now I don’t have to spend money on a filter for a hospital tank! Thanks so much again :)

And do you think that if it comes to needing the hospital tank, should I just use Kanaplex and not salt, or use salt as well? Any other meds or additions? I feel like the Kanaplex should do it so as to not overdo it on treatment 🤔 but idk 🤷‍♀️😂

I also add API Stress Coat and Vitachem and sometimes, if needed due to my tap water’s qualities, API pH Up, to his water every time I change it, can I also use those in the hospital tank?

I would hold off on the stress coat while medicating, I don’t think you need the salt and the antibiotics. You could start with salt and if it doesn’t seem to help then move on to the kanaplex.
Okay, I’ll hold off on stress coat if I medicate! Is that just because of reactions between it and the Kanaplex? And I assume Vitachem would be fine to add to his water and food in the hospital tank?

Thanks for the info on pH Up as well, I didn’t even think of adverse reactions. I’d prob just do Kanaplex instead of salt in the first place, since I did buy a 2 pack of Kanaplex anyway haha

Well the kanaplex is absorbed through the skin and gills and the stress coat has aloe that coats the fish so I would not use the stress coat just to be sure that he can absorb as much kanaplex as possible. The vitachem anytime you want that is good stuff! I really like vitachem it won’t mess with anything you’re doing in the hospital tank any extra vitamins he is getting will certainly help him along his weight gaining. I’m still hoping you won’t have to do any of that so fingers crossed!

Okay that makes sense! Yes I love Vitachem too, I add it every water change and also into his food🥰 he’s getting plump and filled out again so I’m really happy about that! Yep fingers crossed☺

Hey, another question for ya!😅 This might be dumb but…do you need to cycle a hospital tank? Or set it up in any specific way other than putting the Prime in? Like adding a product that starts up an aquarium cycle? Or adding water from his original tank into it? I just thought about this lol

His poor dorsal fin 🙁
I wonder if this growth is why is dorsal fin is shrinking to nothing? Wish I could tell you for sure what is going on but i have no idea
Ugh I know it just makes me so sad😔 Hmm maybe? I know he bites his fins but they look even more sad now. Maybe I should make a new thread for just this tumor? See if I can get more opinions?

I’m going to our LFS this weekend to ask about fish vets and get more IAL. They’re an awesome and knowledgeable local fish shop so I’m sure they’ll have some
