Can anyone give me ideas for a resting perch that I can purchase my betta, to allow him to remain near the surface and breathe easily? I prefer natural plants to a plastic product. Here's a picture of my current tank: it's a 5-gallon.

I have silk plants in my tanks that have leaves up near the top that my boys rest on, I also have craft mesh tubes that float at the top of the water that they love to rest in as well

I float watersprite and mayaca fluviatilis at the surface of my tanks, and my fish will often rest in there. Otherwise, you could secure an anubias to the side of your tank with a suction cap (like those designed for holding airline tubing), so that the leaves form a natural 'perch' at the surface.

I also float watersprite and anubias
My crowntail will also perch onto the top "branches" of cabomba

Mine is a huge fan of the Moneywort I have floating at the top of the tank. Never seen a fish be so satisfied with a floating plant haha.
