I don't treat ripped fins with salt. Salt is NOT needed for simple things like that and you're more likely to make him sick with the mis-use of chemicals, medications or salts. 
Clean water and good food! =D That's the remedy. It'll get better, trust me. Stress coat does help though and many people use it as an additive.
