I was wondering if it would be okay to split a spawn in two different growout tanks?

Yeah i do it all the time if the spawn is to big

Depends. I use big grow outs (20+ gallons) so I never need to. If you feel the need put the smaller ones in a different tank to allow them to grow.

I often split them into groups of 8-12 depending on fry and tank size. But I sometimes keep them together in a 40-50+g (20g is too small for me)

i had to split mine up. the 10 gallon i spawned them in wasn't big enough for 60, and the 30g i got wasn't quite big enough for all of them. so i had the 40 biggest in the 30 and the 20 smallest in the 10.
