The slime is clear. I just changed the water and scrubbed the slime off with a aquarium sponge from petsmart. Also, I have 3 baby plants(java fern), so what should i raise them in, a plastic clear cup with a lid and dosage of fertilizer, or a clouded plastic tube that contained my lucky bamboo plant until i bought it? Please answer this. Typhoon is happy for now.

It's biofilm. It's made from algae, bacteria, etc. All tanks get it to some extent. If you can't put the java fern in with your fish, which would be preferable imo, the cups sounds like the best way.

If you had an algea-eater of some sort they might munch on it. Otherwise, I dunno. It's not harmful though.

I think scrubbing by hand or getting an algae-eater are the only ways.

Would mystery or netrie snails be considered alga eaters?

I have different snails (because, Australia). But mine do eat the slime.

Nerites do eat algae and cyanobacteria- it will probably feed off the slime as well.

Yea, I think almost all snails are algae-eaters. Some eat other things in addition, but the vast majority of marine snails eat algae. They should help.
