i just bought my new girl betta (louise) literally just ! hour ago, when i bought her, she had black stripes. and now shes a shiny light blue color. and when i went to take another pic of her, she got her stripes back. Maybe she gets stripes when shes scared?? i dont knoww

Yes, stripes are a sign of stress in bettas-most commonly seen on female bettas and betta babies(or 'fry') sounds like she likes her home, but the camera spooked her!

i have a female that every time i walk in the room and im stomping un-intentionally she'll get stress stripes, but if i sit there a while they go away.

I have a very timid male that gets them. When I first got him he would get them when I did water changes or transferred him to another holding area. Then he would get them just from me coming around the tank. He even runs from his reflection if I hold a mirror up to him he goes and hides in his cave lol. He's a wimp but I love him lol. He's finally figured out I'm also the source of food so now he tolerates me.
