Thanks for your help! :)

I was thinking will the Dolphin h-300 (rated at 300 ltr/hr) be too powerful for the 8 gallon Betta tank? If it is then I'll have to go with the large sponge filter. Anyone else any suggestions?

I personally prefer submersible filters. I'm using a Tom (something or other) submersible filter I found at petco. Works really good in my divided ten gallon (I got 2, one for each side)

Yeah, you could use a Tom Rapids Mini-Canister. You would maintain it a bit differently than power filters or sponge filters, but it's very well-priced and you can customize the filter media and how to position the spray bar and intake. Sponge filters are another good option.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions... I settled with a Dolphin h-300 for my tank. I'm super glad that it does not produce too much current in the tank and my Betta is doing well with the filter running. :-D

P.S. Sadly, Whisper filters are not available where I stay (India).
