So my betta seems like he's bored living alone. He is most definitely not aggresive, and only shows dominance if there is another fish in his tank, or if there is a mirror . I'm thinking of adding either a comet goldfish or a ghost shrimp. Which one should I get?

Tank size: 3 Gallons

Kind of Betta: Blue and Red Crowntail Male (my icon)

How long have I had him: 4 months

Sick?: No

Filter: Yes

Heater: Yes

Goldfish need a minimum of 20 gallons, and way more filtration then any betta can handle. They also require totally different water conditions.

I keep my one guy with a colony of Rili shrip in a 5gal, he likes chasing them, keeps him entertained and busy.

A three gallon is too small to safely house a Betta with tank mates unless it is densely planted. By that I mean you have to look twice to spot your Betta and you can't see from front to back or side to side. This is the only way Ghost Shrimp would stand a chance. If you go with them get five or six.

In addition to needing a much larger tank and being cold water vs. Tropical fish, Goldfish are extremely messy. You would be siphoning out a lot of poop.
