My petsmart is having sales on their bettas, and they take care of them so well i don't wanna miss out. What kind do you guys think I should get? I'm thinking of naming him either Octane (like the fuel and to match Diesel's) or James (I'm in love with that name) when i get him.

Any other suggestions?

And all of mine have themed names (they are all named after ancient gods) so I love themes! I have 2 VT's, and while I love them to death, they are my tail chompers. GRRR! I think halfmoons have the most stunning fins though my husband prefers crowntails. What is Diesel? Do you want one to match him?
I usually just go in and whatever fish catches my attention is the one that goes home. I was set on another VT when I got Osiris, my halfmoon. HE was the one that captured my attention.

Diesel's a VT but i really want a HM. they'd be shareing a divided tank and i was wondering if they might be a bit more aggressive towards each other

More aggressive than what? I have a half moon in a divided in between a crown tail and a VT. And a crown tail and a VT in another divided. Is diesel already in the divided? Mine all flared at each other a lot the first week, less the second, and now only flare at each other a couple times a day. My HM falls in the middle of aggressiveness for mine, but yours may be different. Be sure to have a backup tank just in case they really can't handle it.

How large is this divided tank?

I had my HM and my super delta bettas in a divided 10 gallon. My HM started tail biting because seeing another betta stressed him out. My super delta was tail biting before I put him in the divided 10 gallon. Once I separated them (Super delta in the 10 gallon, HM in the 3 gallon), they stopped tail biting.
Moral of the story: Be prepared with another tank in case things don't work out with a divided.

I am going to try a divided 10 gallon again with two different fish and see how it goes, with another tank on stand by in case things don't work again.

There's always more room for bettas And the extra money you save on a betta can go towards a new tank It's good to have a spare tank handy anyways in case one betta becomes ill and you need to treat him separately.

Sathori, ironically my HM (which I've been told is notorious for tail biting) has never once chomped on his tail (and he's in the middle of the 29 gallon tank with a betta on both sides) My VT's both do, but one does it the minute his tail gets long no matter what his tank is, and the other one has been chomping on his tail since I got him....in 3 different sized tanks with varying levels of filtration. (he's just evil! grrrr!!!)
Maybe you'd have more luck if you got two at the same time and after quarantine, put them in at the same time.
I'm not sure anyone can stop at just one betta. I couldn't.

i was thinking the different types might be more aggresive towards each other through the divider. They can't see each over through the divider i made thankfully and i got my halfmoon yesterday.
their in a ten gallon heated tank and Diesel is adjusting well after getting some treatment for finrot (he loves the warmer water but tried to attack my thermometer)
When i got my HM he had some signs of tail biting, but I'm treating that with plenty of enrichment. He's already eating and i actually went with Suess instead of Octaine like i origenally thought. He's so tiny compaired to Diesel its funny.
