Hi,
I am so sorry your VT has passed on. If you could fill out the questionnaire below, we may be able to figure out what had gone wrong (if any) while under your care. Sometimes the bettas may have suffered negligence from the pet stores and already had some underlying issues before you got them home. But let's figure out from your end if things could have been prevented.
Good luck! Hope you have a better experience next time!

I agree with Myates.

Personally, without testing the water (which you should have, as your tap may have high amounts of unwanted chemicals) the only thing I would change IMO is to change the water schedule to twice 100% a week. For a one gallon tank, after you put in all the decors (they seem quite large from your photo), they would have displaced quite a good chunk of volume in there. Of course, due to many variables, the best way to tell when is the appropriate water change is by monitoring it with the test kit to give you a better idea. Again, as I said before, other factors such as contracting diseases from the pet shops may have taken a toll on him already, but at least he had a nice looking clean home to spend his last days with a caring owner.

Good luck!
