Hello! I am rather new to the betta world and my current betta, Proteus, is the only one I have ever owned. I have had him for around half a year now, though I have noticed that he has some strange growth on his side. I think the lump appeared around 2 or 3 months ago, but I had assumed it was just some kind of cyst that would eventually drain out or gradually shrink over time. This does not seem to be the case, however. Just today, I noticed that the lump seemed bigger and almost looked like his skin was ripping a bit. My betta still seems perky and lively as ever, he just has this strange bump on his side. I don't know if it is cancerous or life-threatening, but I decided to finally join a site and create a thread about it. Any ideas on what this lump may be? I have a picture attached below. The dark spot on his side is the tumor in question.

What food brand do you use?
Do you feed flakes or pellets?

Before your Betta became ill how often did you perform a water change?
What percentage of water did you change?
What is the source of your water?
Do you vacuum the substrate or just dip out water?
What additives do you use? What brand of conditioner?
