No. But I also won't recommend using them for any tank. They were in vogue about 10 years ago, but since then better technology in HOB filters has come along. UGF's tend to get very dirty, and unless they are kept pristine, they won't work as planned. Just get a sponge filter or a HOB instead.

IMO/E Under gravel filters (UGF) are great especially for a Betta, however, if they are not maintained properly they are useless-plus if you plan to keep live rooted plants-you don't want UGF.

With UGF it is important to keep the plates clean to maintain good water circulation for the BB-Deep weekly vacuum is needed....

If you can deep vacuum weekly and don't plan on rooted plants....UGF are great....
