Hey guys, not sure if this is the right section for this, but today I found a snail in my NPT. I did not purchase any snails when I set it up, and washed it before planting it.

So my guess is that the snails laid some eggs on the plants and I must have missed it :x

If anyone could help me identify this snail and perhaps if its a pest or a good snail, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am thinking it is a Bladder/Tadpole/Pouch Snails - Family Physidae, but your help will be appreciated :D

Those things can reproduce really fast cause they don't need a partner to do so... I currently have them under controll by removing (by hand and my betta eats the smaller ones) when it becomes to much. They are good cleaners and Im on top of how many their are. So if you dont want hundreds of these little guys u might want to clean ur tank really good

Hmm, the only reason I found this little fella was when he started to climb the tank walls, maybe to lay eggs. I haven't seen another since then so I'm assuming there was only 1. Cross my fingers and hope I'm right :x

Well since I don't really have any algae in that tank, I might just get rid of it. And assuming if I place it in my other tank with a little algae in there, would the other tank get over run by them?

Overfeeding a major contributer to a lot of deaths, sickness, over population, etc. of invert tanks. Instead of blaming the Pond Snail for overpopulating, instead blame the person feeding the tank. Snails will not be nearly as prolific if you minimize feeding. (http://www.planetinverts.com/pond_snail.html)

as long as you do not over feed your tank, they won't over populate.

I agree with that. I had millions of these little pests, and another pest species I've never identified, but cutting back on feeding (and introducing some invert-hunting female bettas) has absolutely wiped the population out. I never see them now.
