Water changes and bubble nest

Hi!
Fist of all, I hope you are all doing tremendously well :) :)
I have a quick question and thought I should post it here, I hope I'm not wrong:
My 3 months old betta is enjoying its new 2.5 gallon tank since a couple of days and is visibly verry happy, as he immediately started building a gigantic bubble nest in addition to being super curious and lively. But now, time has come for the first weekly water change (I plan on doing 30% as this is a smaller tank and I'm used to bigger volumes usually). I feel guilty about potentially destroying his hard work and so making him mistrustful and shy in the future.
Any advice on how I can perform a decent water change without anihilating his hard work?
Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I had the same concerns, and even went so far as to try and scoop the nest out, but really, they take it in stride and rebuild :)

Keep a sharp eye on the parameters and his behavior, you may very well find you need to do a regular midweek water change 👍
Thanks! I'm really not familliar with that small tanks, but since I do not want to part with all my baby male bettas (turns out I have a huge rate of male betta fry with 6 of 9 little ones being male) I set them up real quick against all cycling rules but reusing old filters and filling up with half of in use aquarium water from the ongoing 15gallon tank... we'll see what gives!

I tried to change water on the other 2.5 gallon I set up but it turned out to be a chernobyl-sized disaster as the (luckilly tapwater filled) bucket fell over and spread all the water right on my...paper and art stock -_- In other words: this went well and I will wait another day to do the next tank! ;)

In my experience, I think it’s ok to destroy the bubble nest if it’s just a betta by itself. Sometimes if I destroyed my male’s bubble nest to many times, they got discouraged and stopped building them. Not a big problem if your not doing breeding though. If you do want to remove the nest, I used a water bottle cap and scooped some of it out and put it back after a water change.

He didn't build it that big after I changed the water; now its really small sized. I hope it's not due to the water change. As long as he builds some he's happy that's the most imprtant.
