Hi everyone! I just purchased my first betta (male veiltail) a couple of days ago and have some questions about water changes. I currently have him in a 5-gallon Aqueon mini bow tank with filter. I did some research on water changes, but I am still a bit confused. Some people say to do complete water changes every week, while others say this can potentially kill your betta. Others say to do 25%-50% water changes every week and to never do complete water changes. So what is the best way to do water changes? All recommendations are appreciated! :smile2:

Is the tank cycled? if it is then a 25% water change once a week(50% if ammonia tested high) is what I do for my 5.5g, if it's not cycled then I would do daily 25% water changes with prime as a water conditioner.

Also, Welcome to the forum! :)

Yeah; it's best to go by what the tests say rather than any kind of schedule. You're changing the water because the quality needs to be improved, not just because it's arbitrarily time to do one. As long as your tests say you need to do a water change, that's when you should do it.
