Hello! I’m new to the forum but I’be been using the site for a while to learn more about bettas before getting my guy, Goji.

I’ve noticed that he’s grown a lot since I got him on April 4th (second picture), but I’ve also noticed that his tail fin has this weird line going all the way from top to bottom (first picture from today)

(Ignore the string, I recently cleaned the driftwood and it decided not to sink anymore)

I’m wondering if this is just a sign of rapid growth or if it’s something to worry about? His behaviours are normal and he’s eating well, and water parameters are normal although the pH seems to slowly increase after water changes, which I suspect is due to the planted aquarium and substrate.

Any advice is appreciated!

That's completely normal, its just excess fin tissues from earlier.

Welcome to the Forum!

Don't worry, it's just his colouring. Your boy is breathtaking!!
Agreed. He's lovely and the black rim is part of his natural coloring.

His is the Mustard Gas pattern. That pattern requires the rim of the caudal/tail fin to be black. When you first bought him he was still growing and the caudal rim hadn't completely darkened.
