Symptoms and Treatment

How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Tiberius has developed a lump on his left side, approximately were his intestines/stomach is. His color is lightening, becoming a white-gray in places. He also has stress stripes.

How has your betta fish's behavior changed? A bit lethargic, but otherwise the same.

When did you start noticing the symptoms? A week ago
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? At first I assumed he was constipated. He's had issues processing his food in the past. I fasted him for two days, but nothing changed. I tried a few peas, he ate them, and pooped them out no problem but still the lump won't go away. I also added a few drops of APR Melafix for bacterial infections, just in case. This did nothing as well. I've upped his water changes to twice a week, 30% New water 70% old water.
Does your fish have any history of being ill? A bit of past constipation.
How old is your fish (approximately)? I bought Tiberius from a Wal-Mart two and a half years ago, I assume he was about a year old then. He already had his color and was fairly grown.

YES! i will still turn it down. 86 is way too high and it will cause him a lot of harm. get it down to 80.

It looks like he might be a bit bloated/might develop SBD. fast him for a few days and see if the lump goes away. also you should buy more high quality pellets. Omega One and New Life Spectrum are good choices.

I'll be searching the local pet stores for that food tomorrow morning! I saw on a few other forums that those were the superior brands. I turned the heat down. As for the fasting, he's passing all his food, but I will try again. Does 2 days sound like too long?

Bettas can go a very long time without food so try not to worry too much about starving him. Don't do anymore peas, those are good for goldfish but not so much for bettas.

When he does poop is it normal colored (generally the color of the food you feed him) or is it stringy or white?

I agree with them, bump the heat down to 82*F at most, switch to a better pellet (NLS or OO), and keep up on water changes.
Also, look for Prime Water Conditioner. It removes chlorine and chloramine, and detoxifies ammonia and nitrite.

Edit: Good, it most likely isn't internal parasites.

if his poop is normal colored then it isn't internal parasites, which is good!

I agree, try to find Prime. Its the best water conditioner I've ever used.
