After building this dang makeshift tank for way too long, I've finally added Comet and Io into their new home.
Long story short, I wasn't expecting to live where I am now for too long- but a little over a year was a lot longer than expected, and with such limited space (I basically live in a closet), wasn't great news for my comet goldfish.

Scooped up and taken home from a 'feeder tank', they'd grown from 1in. to now 4+! After I measured them and found out that they were too big for their 20 gallon, I felt bad every time I spent time with them, knowing that they were at that point where their growth could be stunted.

So... I decided enough was enough! I went out and made a little make shift temporary tank until move out day- which could end up being until next spring.

Not gonna lie... this was a miserable experience. Especially without a valve. Manually filling and emptying a 50 gallon tank 3 or 4 times is not fun. There was a lot of figuring out what could keep the plastic bin from bowing, etc. (for awhile it kept bowing and looked like a bean. It was terrible.) My back hurt. I was tired. And hungry, (hadn't eaten all day). And the cat was mad at me since I had to keep her in her crate for half the day, keeping her out of harms way (saws were involved). There was PVC dust everywhere.

But alas, Comet and Io have finally been added, and now when I pass the new tank, I feel so happy for them!
In the end, it was worth it.
(They look so tiny in their new 50 gallon! Also please don't judge the ugly cave. It's Comet's favorite thing and I can't get myself to throw it out despite hating it.)

Awww! How awesome! They do look super tiny in the 50 gal! Glad they're in a big tank. :) I was at walmart today and this girl got a goldfish and a 1 gallon bowl. I was to shocked to say anything!

The girls are beautiful! Not to mention adorable. :)

I always say fish first, me (and my space) second. Ha! I can't wait for them to grow big.
Oh no that's always tough to see. Once a guy at petsmart was asking the aquatics sales-person why his 10 gallon tank full of 9 goldfish was so dirty. She really gave him some hard words/advice, I ended up thanking her for it once he left! No one thinks about how their common goldfish will get around 12inches long.
Woops!

Thank you so much for the kind words, Bettaloveee!

A lot of people don't realize how many fish in the aquarium trade get REALLY big if they stay alive long enough, just a few fish that get over 12" long: single tail goldfish and koi, common and leopard sailfin (petco sells as 'Columbia') pleco, knifefish, clown loach, tinfoil barb, bala and rainbow shark, giant gourami, red tailed catfish, pacu

It's so true! I love single tails because of their size, but it's amazing how many people just... don't know. And it's rough for everyone involved when things like that do happen. I guess it's really up to the person getting the fish to really look into how much they're signing up for and for the staff, whoever they might work for, to try and enforce that.

I always thought bala sharks were precious, but even I was impressed when I looked up how big they got!

Ah. I guess I've only seen the really young ones, and was told that they get "huge" lol. Assumed it meant, like, bullhead cat huge.
