I keep hearing "dragonscale". What exactly does that mean? And I'd love to see pics of yours, if you have one. :)

It's a betta that has thicker scales than usual.

The scales on the body are thicker and look more opaque....they go right onto the fish's face, sometimes completely covering it, but more often creating a stripe down the middle of the face. Here's a pic of one of my fish, a black/copper dragonscale. Not the best pic in the world, but it might give you an idea.
My avatar is a Plakat Dragon.

You should start a picture library thread of all your fish!! He is absolutely beautiful. I bet your collection is stunning. I saw one girl you got that I am absolutely jealous of.

I have 2 wants for my sorority that are hard to find in regular pet stores.
A purple EE halfmoon doubletail- when Chards get grown i so wish i can get one. And a white halfmoon. Those are the only 2 types not present in my tank right now. So when you buy to prevent that "i wish" make sure you get a rounded out selection of colors and types. I highly prefer the lighter colors because they are much easier to see with the plants and all the hiding spots.

On topic- My Princess George halfmoon we got at Petco, he's my avatar a beautiful purple/pink/red combination and we didn't buy him knowing he was a dragonscale but in the last 2 months his scales have started growing and in the next probably less than 3 months I fully expect him to be blind in 1 eye if not both. The scales on his head have just progressively gotten thicker as he has grown and he has blotches starting to drop down and grow over his eyes. I'm so attached to this fish it makes me want to cry thinking about it but any dragonscales with full masks (see Cat0woman's picture), they don't have that "skunk stripe" down the top of the head and this is something that can happen. I won't ever buy another dragon scale and had pointedly avoided them for that reason, George didn't look like a dragon scale when he was young, it's just lately the scales has started to grow freakishly fast on his head.

The first is Ciel #2, and the second is Ciel #1
Here's a close-up pic (courtesy of Google) that shows the thicker, almost metallic looking scales up close. Very, very cool.
