I am trying to get the last few things to set up my tank so I can start cycling.
My tank is a 5g Hawkeye. I want to plant this tank as well if that matters.

What wattage do I need?
Aside from pre-set or adjustable, are there any other specifications to aware of?

Weither it's that I keep my house at a freezing temperature or my heaters are a bit defective. But I had a 25W Hydor Theo for almost two years now and I totaly rely on it and recomend that brand.

I bought that tank for Jet a while ago and I found that a 25W heater did not cut it, didn't heat enough to my liking, I keep my tankx at 80*F and ya the 25W even cranked up at it's highest had trouble heating the whole tank and did this awful rattling sound (like as if pushed to hard).

So I returned it and bought the 50W heater, now even the 50W has a bit of trouble heating the whole tank, I keep it cranked up to the highest so it heats at 80*F.
Now the tank is heated at 80*F and I'm happy!

So I recommend for that size a tank the Hydor Theo 50W, especially if u live in canada.

Don't worry I have the 25W in my 2.5g and I just keep the dial down so it only heats till the temp. goes up to 80*F. So if u don't live up north as I do and the 50W is too strong for ur tank just keep the temp. lower.
