I have like "oil slicks" on the top of my water.
I just did a 75% water change about an hour ago and syphoned the rocks and its already back.

The tank is a 5 gallon, divided, tank. Gravel, fllter (just changed the media 2 days ago), and heater....

Inhabitants: Male CT, Female (VT I think), and a snail...

amonia, nitrate, nitrite, and hardness all test fine. This tank did not do this with just a snail in it, so is that from the food?

Do you have a hood on the tank? This is typical dust from the air I believe, and not oil. If you don't have a hood I'd recommend one. Lui

yes, it has a clear acrylic lid.

It looks like bits of protein film. It's quite normal and non-harmless in a tank with little surface movement. It just looks wierd.

If you bothered by it take a sheet of paper towel, hold on one end at each of the corners with your finger tips and let the other end glide atop the surface. Do this 2 or 3 times and most of the film is gone.
