i thought charlie had over flared and torn his tail but i went out on friday and when i got back saturday there was another tail and it over all just looked ragged. he hasn't lost any length and theres no abnormal black. (he does have 1 or 2 spots of black on his tail but they are always there) like i said he hasn't lost any length but it appears theres less red and more clear than before. the pictures didn't do a good job of catching the ragged but i took over 100 pictures spread out through friday, saturday and today. on the 16th i did about a 95% water change and completely re arranged his tank, maybe should i not have done that? also on friday i added live bamboo. but i noticed thursday night hes at the back of the tank and just swims back and forth a long the back of the tank, not leaving the back of the tank often which is unlike him, he usually used the whole tank. i tried taping paper to the back and sides of the tank but that seemed to bother him more so i took it off on saturday. so how do i fix this?

Ohhh hey, my guy looks really REALLY similar to that! Right now my guys look a but more shredded but a month ago, Emiko's looked just like that

Do not worry, this is signs of tail growth. He seems to be having a fin growth spurt, just like my Emiko has had 3 times since I got him. And typically over flaring causes their fins to get holes in them or split cleanly in half.
OH MY GOD HEY sorry but I JUST NOTICED, YOUR FISH IT LITERALLY THE TWIN OF MY EMIKO! Lol I showed my mom your avatar and she thought your Charlie looked just like my Emiko.. wow they are even growing the same..

thats really cool that they look the same and are growing the same!
!!!!!!!!!
And yep, it is nothing to worry about but you could always add a bit of aquarium salt just to take precautions, I do that even though you don't have to.
and also follow the salting dosage, 1 gr salt/ 100 gr water, your tank is 45 gallons=170,34 ltr, (1ltr:1000 gr), it means you have to give your water about 1,7034 kg salt. maybe my count was wrong, you can count it by yourself :D
I think AQ salt is 1/2 teaspoon per gallon.
i was able to get a better picture of his tail during a water change today. only the far left is his tail, the top and bottom fins are in the picture too so his tail isn't THAT torn up....

I'm no expert but the last 4 pictures of your first post looks like new fin growth. He looks good to me even though the pictures aren't very good. Try better lighting next time for pictures.

If you notice any rips, holes, or fin loss, try salt water.
Move him to a smaller container for quarantine and easy treatment.
The dosage for salt is 1 teaspoon of aquarium salt for each gallon of water.
If your using tap water add stress coat and salt. Let it sit over night to make sure salt is dissolved. Don't use salt water longer then 10 days. It could cause serious damage to your betta.
I take mine out after 5 days.
Also you can feed him garlic food and use decaf green tea.

I do not believe he is sick. He may just be bored. That is a very large tank did it being just him. You could try getting him a buddy. I recommend a Nerite snail. If include ghost shrimp but the ones i have creep me out. Lol One of my bettas likes to play with his floating mesh tube or his floating thermometer.
Hope done of this helps.
Good luck with your beautiful boy!
